It's Mead Season!

Our mead section is growing by leaps and bounds.  We have TWO new Texas producers with product in the store this year.  Both using Texas honey to produce their many levels of mead.

Traditional ($14.99 cash price) 
Our dry mead is made with our proprietary blend of honey. It has an extraordinary light honey flavor with subdued floral notes and light flavors of lemongrass and licorice. Enjoy this mead in place of a nice glass of dry white wine. 750ml

Semi-Sweet ($14.99 cash price)
Our semi sweet mead is similar to our dry mead but with a touch of honey added to provide a sutble sweetness. 750ml

Apple ($15.99 cash price)
   This lightly flavored semi-sweet mead is a blend of honey and apples with a wonderful aroma and taste. There are also subtle aromas and flavors of vanilla, spice, and chickory. 750ml

Enjoy Honey Mead Chilled or With Spices ($11.29)

The Mead can be enjoyed in one of two ways, either chilled or heated with spices to create a delicious wintry drink.
The Maiden Hot-Spiced Mead Recipe (using included two CHAUCER'S spice bags)
  1. Pour half or full bottle of CHAUCER'S Mead into a medium-sized saucepan.
  2. Drop in spice bag(s). One spice bag for half of a bottle and two spice bags for a full bottle.
  3. Let the bag(s) steep over medium heat for 5-10 minutes or until Mead has reached the desired spiciness. Do not bring to a boil.
  4. Remove spice bag(s) and pour hot-spiced Mead into a favorite goblet, mug or glass.

Sean Bruno from Bruno Wines out of Sour lake will be here with his NEW Three Rivers Red, Cranberry and Raspberry.

Red 55 Winery will be here with their Red 55 Cabernet, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and White Liar.

Haak will be here with their Tempranillo and Blanc du Bois.

Landon winery will be here to taste out only ( We had a mishap on their delivery.  We will have product from them later this week.) Landon Yellow rose, Tempranillo and Chardonnay.

Messina Hof will be here with Barrel Resrve Cabernet, Unoacked Chardonnay and Father and Son Riesling.

Also LLano with their new release with us Viva Rosso, Moscato and Shiraz.

Whats Charles Drinking? #2

Traditionally as we move into the cooler months, we also make a transition from light, crisp ales to deep, rich lagers. As westerners most of us cut our teeth on lagers. Because of the prusso-texan demographic and the exemplorary craft bocks that have come from it, most of us also have some rudimentary experience with bocks. It’s a sweet spot on our tongues that is left largely unexplored. I’ve been reacquainting myself with Paulaners’ Salvator, a double bock. A hand-crafted double bock originally brewed by Italian monks living in German missions. The rich, bready, brooding bock was conceived as a means of fasting during the Lentin season, hence the ‘filling’ nature of these beers.

I like lagers--they’re simple and smooth and subtle and we have a whole lot of them up here. Chilled, in a glass. The higher alcohol by volume is expertly balanced by a careful grain bill, malt, and hop selection.
